FAQ-Questions and Answers This list provides answers to frequently asked questions and is updated regularly. Are there any size restrictions on campgrounds or parking lots? You can park in any regular parking lot with our camper vans. Is it necessary to make reservations for campgrounds? Usually not, but depending on season and location it might be better to make reservations in advance. Especially in summer and for points of interest and National- or Themeparks. Are there any price differences between campgrounds? That depends on location and if it’s a private or public operated campground. A private campground is usually more expensive than public campgrounds. The service is better at private campgrounds. Also you might pay more in San Francisco, Grand Canyon or Disney Land as in less known places. What kind of facilities might a campground offer? Bigger campgrounds offer water-, electric- and sewer hook-ups. Some (mostly private) campgrounds have swimming-pool, convenient store, laundry facility, playgrounds and a recreation room. Do you provide campground guides and maps? We provide editions of Rand McNally Road Atlas, California RV & Camping Guide, KOA Campground Directory with a 10% Discountcard and other maps. Is it possible to camp in the wild? We do not recommend it. How much fees should I expect for a campground? Campground fees vary between US$ 10.00 and US$ 40.00 per night / per vehicle. Are campervans difficult to hook up and to operate? No. At departure you will be given a familiarization tour and learn how to hook it up and operate appliances. To save some money.Is there a special entrance fee for National Parks? You have the opportunity to buy the " Golden Eagle Card " at the park entrances and it costs US$ 50.00. Without the card you would have to pay US$ 5.00 -US$ 15.00 per entry. What does a convenience kit contain?
Vehicles What kind of power supply does a campervan have? Our vans are powered with a V-8 engine. The refrigerator, stove, heater, AC and other appliances either with propane, 110 volt or 12 volt. Our campers are designed to use water, electric and sewer on campgrounds. What is the capacity of the fuel tanks and which fuel does a Campervan need? The capacity of the fuel tanks is about 33 to 38 gallons (125 to 140 liters) and it needs regular unleaded, 87 octane. How much gas does it need? That depends of weight and style of driving. The average is about 13-17 miles per gallon. Is it secure to sleep in the campervan? There is absolutely no problem on a campground. Is it safe to drink the water from the campervan tank? No, we don’t recommend it. You won’t know the quality of the water you fill up at different campgrounds. The tank water is fine for washing and bathing, but it is better to use bottled water for drinking and cooking. Does the camper vans come with a TV, VCR or Stereo? There is an AM/FM radio with a cassette player in the dashboard for midsize and bigger vehicles. It is not guaranteed on smaller cars
General Questions Can I tow a boat or a car with the campervan? Towing is not allowed with our rentals.
How do I get to the STI Rental station? Transfer to / from designated areas can be arranged upon request. Directions/Map Is there accommodation and/or shopping centers close to the rental station? Our staff will be happy to provide you with information Do I need an international driver license to travel in the US? Your regular national driver license is required. Is there a minimum amount of time that we have to rent? Our minimum rental is 7 nights. There may be extended minimums over Holidays and during special events in which case the minimum may range from 1 to 4 nights per rental.See terms and conditions How many miles are included in the rent? You will have 100 miles/per day included in the basic rental fee with STI. See prices What deposit is required? There is a US$300.00 reservation deposit required for camper vans and $200.00 for cars. It will be charged to your credit card and will be applied toward your rental charges. The security deposit for camper vans is US$1,000.00 ( some special travel arrangements may have a different deposit ) and must be done by VISA, Mastercard, Discover or American Express. There is a US$ 400.00 security deposit required for our cars, also with a major creditcard. Up return, any extra charges will be balanced against the security deposit and the remainder will be refunded. Do you allow pets in your camper vans? Yes, we allow pets in our vehicles. This will require an additional US$ 300.00 security deposit. It will be refunded at the return of the vehicle, if there are no special cleaning or repairs necessary, Can I park my car at your rental station while we travel? Yes, you can park your car at our rental station but it is at your risk entirely. Can we leave our luggage at the rental station? It is not a problem to leave your luggage at the rental station. What if the campervan breaks down? You need to call our business within 24 hours or the next business day. Although for repairs, US$ 50.00 or less, may be performed without authorization and will be refunded at drop off. What if I have an accident? Call us not later than 24 hours or the next business day, make a report in writing and file a police report. If you fail to get a police report, your deductible might be higher than agreed.See terms and conditions Is it possible to travel to Mexico? Yes, it is possible, if you leave a deposit in the value of the car. We do recommend to rent an older vehicle to keep the deposit lower.You must notify us also in advance of the intention to travel to Mexico that we can explain the special important conditions for this country. See terms and conditions How about Alaska, Yukon and Death Valley? It is allowed to travel to those destinations under one condition. You have to tell us about this intention to give you important information. See terms and conditions Do I get reimbursed if I return the vehicle before the date it is due? No refunds will be made for early returns, late pick up or unused miles. What if I return the vehicle too late? You need to return the vehicle not later than 11am on the date of return. There is a fee of US$ 30.00 per hour or US$300.00 per day for late returns. Are there childseats available? Yes, childseats are available for rent for a fee of US$ 15.00. See optional equipment Do you have bikes and bikeracks for rent? Yes, we do. Prices see optional equipment Is there pick up and drop off provided from your company? Yes, there is pick up and drop off provided from the airport or hotels in the SFO airport area for no additional fee at specified times and for rentals over 7 days. We charge for pick ups or drop offs in downtown San Francisco US$ 35.00 per unit. What happens if I have to cancel my reservation? Is it possible to rent any other camping equipment? STI INC offers the following optional equipment at additional costs: Baby/child seats, camping chairs, toasters, bicycles and racks. |
